Gene Wilder is a great comic actor who can stand alone — think “Young Frankenstein” — but pairing him with Richard Pryor in this, their first film together, was comic genius. It’s unfortunate that half the movie was over before Pryor’s character joined the plot.
Trains, planes and automobiles are all comic vehicles in this cross country action adventure, comic romance. But you can stay in this weekend and watch a classic 1970s film. (114 min.)

A cross-country train trip turns into a roller coaster ride for average guy George Caldwell (Wilder) who becomes happily involved with fellow passenger Hilly Burns (Jill Clayburgh) and unhappily involved in murder and intrique after Hilly’s boss gets knocked off. When George gets tossed off the train — for the second time– he meets sharp-tongued thief Grover (Pryor) and the fun shifts into overdrive. (114 min.)
