Although “Kansas City Confidential” doesn’t feature the dark cinematography one thinks of in film noir, it captures the gritty feel in its storyline. A convict with little more than medals from his service in World War II is framed for a bank heist he didn’t commit. He quickly hits the trail of the real robbers, searching not on golf courses, but in Tijuana and a Mexican fishing village. This movie has it all: fistfights, guns and a gal. (99 min.)

In “Kansas City Confidential,” John Payne is set up to take the fall for a clever bank heist. After the cops let him go, he trails the true culprits to Mexico. The bad guys, including wild-eyed Jack Elam, are bad and even the good guys are a little bit bad in this classic film noir. (99 min.)
