This movie would have been a mildly entertaining Gene Wilder comedy thriller even without Richard Pryor, but the first-time screen pairing of Wilder and Pryor, which turned out to be a magic combination, makes this a great film. A cross-country train trip turns into a roller coaster ride for average guy George Caldwell (Wilder) who becomes happily involved with fellow passenger Hilly Burns (Jill Clayburgh) and unhappily involved in murder and intrique after Hilly’s boss gets knocked off. When George gets tossed off the train — for the second time– he meets sharp-tongued thief Grover (Pryor) and the fun shifts into overdrive. (114 min.)
